Choice and Outreach with Advantage Home Care
Sometimes when people are managing a lot of health issues alone, they might not want help, but they need help to remain safely in their home. Choice and outreach can provide the needed comfort.
Shawn shares her story and a fabulous testimonial for Advantage Home Care, but she was not always open-minded about having a home health aide. When her health issues began mounting the idea of a home health aide didn’t comfort her until she heard that she could select her own caregiver. Now she praises Advantage Home Care because of their consistent home care outreach.
Did you know that Advantage has a BYOC program (Bring your Own Caregiver) where you can choose your own caregiver? This can turn the unfortunate situation of being a fall risk into a positive lifestyle experience. Learn about Consumer Directed Services and our BYOC – bring your own caregiver.
In the video below, Shawn tells her story about mounting illnesses and becoming a fall risk. Now she has selected her own caregiver and extolls the Advantage’s outreach.

I didn’t know what was going on. I woke up I guess about 4 months ago with pain in my chest that reached all the way down to my fingertips. I was just in pain. And I hate hospitals, I hate them. And I’m like … oh my goodness. For two days it was like that. I called my doctor and she said “you need to come in”.
When I walk I have to be careful. I’m not steady on my feet. I have wounds. I have ulcers that I’ve been bandaging for the last 5 years. It takes forever to bandage. I take two showers a day. I’m not steady in the tub, I need a chair and I need someone to help me into the tub so I don’t fall. I can’t stand long. I swell really bad. It makes me weak.
I heard about people coming into your home to help you. But with my bipolar I don’t trust everybody. So I was really reluctant to go on it. But once I was told that I could pick who did it (provided care), then I was really comfortable with it.
Do they call you and ask you how things are? Do they make sure that everything you need to be done is being done. And that’s what Advantage … I like about Advantage they are always calling – are you fine, is your worker doing good, are you staying healthy, is everything going good? And I like that!
Shawn still has multiple health issues, has a high risk of falling, but she is able to live at home and she appreciates her caregiver and Advantage Home Care.
